From 2002 to 2034: BYU Alum Fraser Bullock on Utah’s Olympic Journey and Paris Olympics

Jun 27, 2024

Fraser Bullock is the president and CEO of the Salt Lake City committee for the games, which is aiming to bring the Winter Games back to Utah in 2034.

The interview starts with Fraser Bullock jokingly predicting a win for both Utah getting the 2034 games and BYU defeating Oklahoma State on October 18th at Lavell Edward Stadium.

The conversation then turns to the changing landscape of college sports, with the introduction of name, image and likeness (NIL) rights for athletes and the possibility of conferences selling their rights to corporations. Fraser Bullock believes this is a positive development if done responsibly.

Fraser Bullock is then asked about the upcoming vote by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on whether to award the 2034 games to Utah. He compares Utah's position to being on the one-yard line in football, needing only a short push to score, with no defense. However, there is still some work to be done before the IOC vote in Paris on July 24th.

The interview concludes with a discussion about the upcoming trip to Paris to present Utah's case to the IOC. Fraser Bullock will be joined by a delegation that includes the governor, mayors, and business leaders. Jimmer Fredette, a former BYU basketball star, will also be part of the delegation.
